Emergency surgery

A lot has happened today. Norberto was scheduled for emergency surgery this morning to remedy a hole that was put in his spleen accidentally when they did the kidney biopsy. It is what has been causing him so much pain.

Then the doctors there were discussing the option of removing his spleen while he was waiting to go into surgery but luckily a doctor with experience reminded everyone how important the spleen is for the immune system. Since he is on immuno-suppressants would make it hard for him to heal. We understand that they opened him up and closed him without doing anything to the spleen other than looking at the hole.

He came out of surgery OK but now they have moved him into intensive care for a better observation.

Milli feels quite strongly that it’s time to get him somewhere better.

Much of the day has been spent with teams doing research and groundwork on alternative places.

Astrid has been researching some options in Germany...

Open Path people have been translating medical records and working on an application to get Norberto into the Mayo Clinic. As of business close they have agreed to see him but we still need to talk about details and cost.

Also we have begun looking into better Brazil options. However, we could use help, If there is anyone who speaks Portuguese that could help make calls and research on Brazilian hospitals that would be a huge help. And frankly all options are on the table right now so please speak up and reply to this email or get in touch with Carie if you have any ideas.

The good news is that the combined total of money raised is $40,000 and climbing.

Both the Go-fund-me and www.openpath.global can be posted on regular Facebook pages and forwarded out. Let’s get this fundraiser going viral!!!

Lastly... Milli wants everyone to know how grateful both her and Norberto are for all of the support, the beautiful emails, the offers for kidneys, the financial support...she wishes she could respond to each message but please know your messages are received with gratitude. The community support is literally keeping them going.

Also Milli mentioned that Norberto has been singing a song written by Nate Grace: “Thank you for my life. Every little thing is right”
